We are seeking a Senior Engineer/Lead Engineer to join the staff at our Newark, Delaware location.
Senior Engineer/Lead Engineer - PHI/ACE/DP/Pepco is posting a position that will be filled at the Senior Engineer or Lead Engineer level. Those candidates who meet the minimum requirements for the Senior and the Lead positions will be interviewed first. If there is a successful candidate at the Lead Engineer level, then the interview process will stop. If there is NOT a successful candidate at the Lead Engineer level, those meeting the minimum requirements for the Senior Engineer position will be interviewed and considered for the Senior Engineer position.
Senior Engineer - Civil
Provides engineering and technical direction in the implementation of routine projects, studies, plans and engineering activities requiring initiative and sound engineering judgment. This is a senior level position in the Substation Engineering group. This position performs routine work that conforms to all project/task requirements that requires an in depth understanding and application of engineering theories, standards, concepts, techniques, as well as knowledge of engineering/industry codes and government regulations associated with the design, site preparation, permitting, associated with the civil and structural requirements of substations. This position will be working with other teams, consultants and contractors to establish or review plans, designs, calculations, methods and solutions.
Lead Engineer - Civil
This position has full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating civil and structural projects across the Substation Engineering group. This position requires extensive progressive experience thereby able to perform and interpret complex engineering and/or economic data analyses for large and/or complex engineering projects. This position will be company liaison to outside groups, organizations, governments and regulatory bodies and will represent the Substation Engineering group in working with other departments, consultants and contractors to establish or review plans, designs, calculations, methods, solutions, etc. is consulted by associates and will provide support, technical guidance, expertise and training to other engineers in the group.
Senior Engineer
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
- 6 years of progressive, relevant engineer experience (including experience as an Engineer 2) OR the equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training demonstrating the following skills:
- working independently on routine projects and/or under guidance on special projects, effectively incorporating engineering theories, standards, concepts, and techniques as well as engineering/industry/government codes and regulations;
- performing and interpreting engineering analyses and/or economic data analyses for engineering projects, using specialized utility programs and/or vendor-specific software to perform structural analysis;
- developing creative solutions to problems of above-average complexity;
- managing multiple engineering projects/assignments and ensuring work conforms to project/task requirements, including coordinating work across different areas, departments and/or work groups; and developing bid specifications and evaluation criteria.
- identifying the need for new projects/initiatives and recommending a solution;
- mentoring engineers and others in a variety of engineering projects/activities;
- keeping abreast of new equipment, methods and developments in an engineering specialty.
- Experience demonstrating skill presenting oral and written results of engineering projects.
- Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, analytical and e-mail software.
- Experience demonstrating skill using design software (for example, CAD software).
- Ability and willingness to travel to various company locations and work sites.
- Ability and willingness to work extended hours (including holidays and weekends) with little or no notice, on-call and during storms and system emergencies.
- Ability and willingness to adhere to safety regulations and policies and to wear and use safety equipment as required by Federal, State, Local and PHI regulations (for example, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves and sleeves, hard hat, fire retardant clothing).
- Ability and willingness to work in a variety of work environments which may include outdoors in all weather conditions, on or around energized electrical equipment, in confined spaces, climbing, underground and in noisy and dirty environments with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Must possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license OR have the ability and willingness to obtain it within one year of entry into the position.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must successfully pass a Criminal History Records Check.
Preferred:
- Experience demonstrating skill performing structural design and analysis using computer based programs.
- Experience demostrating skill conducting feasibility studies (for example, economic benefits of design and structural facilities investigations).
- Experience demonstrating skill designing concrete foundation and steel structures for electrical substations.
- Experience demostrating skill evaluating vendor qualifications and monitoring contract compliance.
- Experience demonstrating skill applying diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields present in electric utilities.
Lead Engineer
Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil engineering.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive, relevant engineer experience as described below (including experience as a Senior Engineer) OR the equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training demonstrating the following skills:
- performing complex work independently, effectively incorporating engineering theories, standards, concepts, and techniques as well as engineering/industry/government codes and regulations.
- performing and interpreting COMPLEX engineering and/or economic data analyses for LARGE AND/OR COMPLEX engineering projects, using specialized utility programs and/or vendor-specific software to perform structural analysis.
- developing creative solutions to COMPLEX problems.
- managing multiple COMPLEX engineering projects/assignments and ensuring work conforms to project/task requirements, including:
- coordinating work across different areas, departments and/or work groups.
- developing bid specifications and evaluation criteria.
- evaluating vendor qualifications and monitoring contract compliance.
- conducting feasibility studies (for example, economic benefits of design and structural facilities investigations).
- identifying the need for new COMPLEX projects/initiatives and recommending a solution.
- mentoring engineers and others in a variety of engineering projects/activities.
