Position Summary:
Develop and implement World Class Manufacturing projects, production and
processing methods, and controls to meet customer operations standards in the
most cost effective manner. Through the application of engineering fundamentals
and advanced process control tools, ensure processes are centered, capable and
in control, reduce process variations and resolve special causes of variation.
Essential Duties:
Areas of responsibility include the design or development of new process control
systems or revision of existing processes; developing and coordinating
implementation of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) projects which contribute
substantially to plant profitability; assist with preparing programs for
computer control systems; and prepare and coordinate operational information and
data for the plant management.
- Reports to the Maintenance and Engineering Supt. Has latitude for independent
judgment and discretion to execute primary objectives within established
policies, procedures and practices. Secures prior approval for unusual or out of
policy actions.
- Internal contacts include heads of production, maintenance and quality, etc
and securing appropriate resources to plan and implement controls projects.
- External contacts include consultants and suppliers to determine the
compatibility of other systems, products and personnel as they may apply to WCM
and Controls.
- Typical problem solving situations include analyzing operating problems,
developing solutions and leading the implementation of corrective action; using
advanced controls tools to reduce process variations and downtime, identifying
and resolving special cause variation in the process, and participating in
"SWAT" teams to resolve critical process and product problems with
customers and vendors.
- Maintains records of plant and individual equipment performance.
- Prepares data sheets, diagrams and flow charts needed for the correct and
efficient operation of the plant equipment.
- Develops and maintains standard operating procedures and work instructions.
- Uses advanced PLC/Controls tools to reduce process variations.
- Identifies and resolves special cause variation in the process.
- Coordinates changes in the production process.
- Analyzes operating problems, develops solutions and leads with implementation
of corrective action.
- Receives and collects, interprets and extrapolates data from the production
process to monitor current performances against established baselines.
- Makes recommendations to improve efficiencies.
- Provides weekly status reports of projects to Plant Management
- Other related duties and responsibilities.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills Required:
Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or the
equivalent, plus a minimum of 5 to 7 years of applied professional experience in
Controls/PLC. Must be capable of preparing calculations, specifications and
drawings to meet design requirements. A comprehensive knowledge of the
practices, procedures and regulations associated with process control technology
is essential. Must be able to work effectively with corporate and contractor
personnel as well as plant maintenance and operations.
