Manufacturing /Process Project Engineer
$70,000 - $85,000 plus Bonus
Currently we are seeking candidates for a Manufacturing Engineer in San Diego, California. Our client is an international leader in the manufacturing of specialty metal products for nuclear, aerospace, medical and electronic industries.
Responsibilities:
- Project leader working closely with the Sales/Application Engineer, Product Manager, and Operations staff to develop and carry out a wide range of prototyping activities. Direct interface with customers will sometimes be required
- Provide process flows and cost estimates for production and development work.
- Directly responsible to identify and develop processes, equipment, and tooling to satisfy fast turn around prototyping needs.
- Coordinate in-house activities of various departments including Operations, Machine Shop, and Maintenance necessary to carry out development.
- Identify and establish solid business relationships with suppliers to provide services needed to supplement our client's capabilities.
- Will require a combination of prototype/flexible/fast turn around and production services.
- Document development and production processes to ensure repeatability and reproducibility.
- Identify and implement Lean and Six Sigma methods as appropriate.
- Transition production processes to Operations through coordination/buy-in of Product Manager. Provide training as needed for transition.
- Apply Six Sigma tools to identify and implement process improvement opportunities.
- Lead role in the identification, specification, evaluation, acquisition, and proofing of capital equipment and tooling to support the needs.
- Analyze process capability and develop an improvement plan.
- Develops lean principles in manufacturing and transactional processes to ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with the Quality Systems.
Skill Requirements:
- BS degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy or related Field an advanced degree in one of the disciplines is preferred.
- Five or more years engineering experience in the medical devices, metal fabricating industry, specifically In heat treating, cleaning, forming, drawing, rolling and welding stainless steel tubes.
- Experience with manufacturing techniques, process development, statistical process control, Six Sigma, Kaizen and Lean tools.
- Above Average verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Project management skills, facilitation and interpersonal skills required
- Understand engineering drawings and specifications.
- Computer skills are required in MS Office professional applications and statistical analysis program, CAD experience useful.
